Phillips Connect Technologies develops a comprehensive IT system to help trucks and trailers communicate

One of the largest trends in technology today—the internet of things—is driving growth and development in the trucking industry. The rapid development of the “smart” truck and trailer connected systems are creating efficiencies for fleet managers and drivers alike. In the first wave of sensor information we’ve see “passive” component status information such as real-time tire pressure data coming from the trailers. As system technology rapidly develops, this information will come together to create a holistic picture of asset health. Moving into the future we’ll see an even more “active” phase with capabilities such as automatic tire inflation. All of this information is being collected with the objective of improving the operating costs of very expensive transportation assets. As this technology advances, it won’t be long before we see the industry move into a “predictive maintenance phase.”
